HIV-2 PERIPHERAL BLOOD PRODUCTS

HIV type 2 is a sub species of the lentivirus HIV. HIV-2 has a slower progression rate of the disease, as well as lower rates of transmission compared to HIV-1. Often patients infected with HIV-2 have a low viral load and a slower rate of CD4 cell count decline as compared those infected with HIV-1.

PPA can obtain whole blood and plasma samples from these patients when they become available to our network of clinicians. Some disease types may have a long backorder depending on the frequency of the disease occurrence in the general population. All samples come from fully consented IRB approved collections.
